students majoring in English study cognitive psychology and the sciences of communication to expand their understanding of the process of human thought, language, and communication. Cognitive psychology informs students on how individuals perceive, comprehend, and produce language in order to analyze and interpret texts better. Communication sciences highlight the social and contextual features of language and give students a deeper understanding of effective communication and engaging an audience.

In the second term, students will investigate language issues in ESP, by shedding light on the ESP practitioner role, ESP learners and teaching objectives in ESP. Further issues of grammar, vocabulary and content will be explored. In the third chapter, students will be introduced to the process of needs analysis and its different approaches. By the end of the chapter, students will gain the necessary skills in order to conduct a needs analysis with a specific group of learners.  Therefore, they will be able to incorporate their learning outcomes to design and present a lesson plan
