Solid-state physics focuses on studying the microscopic properties of rigid matter, including the arrangement of atoms in crystalline solids according to Bravais lattices. The bonding between atoms in solids occurs through several mechanisms: covalent, ionic, metallic, and van der Waals bonds. Furthermore, this branch of physics investigates X-ray diffraction; a techniques used for structure determination. Understanding these microscopic properties enables us to explain and predict macroscopic behavior in materials, such that mechanical carachteristics (elasticity), electrical, thermal, optical behaviors.
